my daughter has recently been diagnosed as ADD. we are still trying to find the best med. Adderal wasn’t right, now on Focalin–better, but not quite a perfect fit. teaching physical discipline, organization, boundaries definitely helps someone overcome the symptoms of ADD, but not completely. meds are necessary too, to help calm the mind, help it to focus and function like a ‘regular’ mind. but you need both–discipline and meds–for the best outcome.
I think so too… do you think that adults should also be on meds for ADHD? My boyfriend has been diagnosed with ADHD by a psychologist, he hasn’t seen a doctor yet…I’ve been urging him to do so but I’m scared he misuse them and get addicted. (He somehow got addicted to pot for a while, he’s good now)
yes, i do think adults who meet the criteria should be on meds too. my ex was just like my daughter but i never saw it as maybe being ADD. but now i see it, and he would have been so much more productive and probably more able to stay at a job and to be good at it (although he was very good at being good at a job even with the symptoms) any case, he could benefit from meds and knowing what it is that makes him disorganized etc. but he probably would never agree that he had a problem, so wouldn’t take any meds. you can lead a horse to water, but you cant make it drink….
