“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” — Nelson Mandela

Today I learned that Nelson Mandela passed away. He is one of my heroes and he will stay as such…I’m happy we did not wait for him to die to recognize his value. We should celebrate his life and remember how one man, sacrificed himself in the name his values. He created a movement that shaped the history of the world. I remember my first time watching the movie of his life…As a kid I was horrified by what he had been through but what stayed with me is his compassion. Even though he went trough hell unfairly, he did not hold a grudge. By forgiving, he freed himself from hatred and was able to  make his country a better place. Not a lot of people are capable of such wisdom.

“If you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your enemy. Then he becomes your partner.”— Nelson Mandela

I hope his departure will inspire other leaders to follow his path and remember that a peaceful resolution of conflict is the only solution. I thought I would use this public venue to share how a great man he was. Mandela, Ghandi and Mother Theresa are people who guided my path throughout my life. They gave me the strength to forgive and to see the good in everyone, they made me want to change the world and live a meaningful life. I still have hope and will keep on fighting for what I believe in. There’s another angel in the sky now.

“When a man has done what he considers to be his duty to his people and his country, he can rest in peace.” — Nelson Mandela

You have done your duty. You have change many lives and will continue inspiring generations Madiba. May you rest in peace.
